2013 Apr 2

Angie Knipe of Divide, CO was awarded a $5,000 graduate fellowship from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

The UCCS Graduate School and the Office of Research and Innovation recently awarded $75,000 in graduate fellowships to fifteen graduate students based on merit and their engagement in research at UCCS. Funding for the fellowships comes from the Office of the Associated Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, which is funded in part by UCCS faculty who write and receive grants.

Knipe was one of thirty-three graduate students at UCCS nominated for the fellowship and is earning a master's degree in history from the UCCS College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.

"Evaluation of this year's nominees was a difficult process due to the number of high-quality candidates," Kelli Klebe, dean, Graduate School, said. "I am pleased that the awards were given to students who represent a variety of research disciplines from across the colleges, and between both doctoral and master's level candidates."

The Graduate School works with six UCCS colleges to offer more than 20 master's and doctoral programs, including online, weekend and evening course options. Almost all graduate faculty members have terminal degrees and many are working with partners such as NASA, the Olympic Training Committee, the National Science Foundation.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, is one of the fastest growing universities in the nation. The university offers 36 bachelor's degrees, 19 master's and five doctoral degrees. UCCS enrolls about 9,800 students on campus annually and another 2,000 in online programs.
